1991

  • Blythe Street Community Meetings with Councilmember
    Emani Bernardi, CD 7
  • Blythe Street was considered one of the worst streets in
    Los Angeles County.

1992

  • IHM Blythe Street Project was established by Margaret Rose Welch
    and Socorro Meza with the assistance of the Blythe Street
    Coordinating Council
  • The General Motors Plant Closed.
  • IHC agrees to subsidize the Blythe Street Project with
    an annual grant, $20,000
  • Provided over 25 programs to youth and families.

1993

  • City Attorney James K. Hahn filed an Amended Complaint on
    March 22, 1993 seeking injunctive relief against the Blythe Street Gang.
  • Blythe Street Park Expansion and Development Study, April 2003,
    City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks
  • Immaculate Heart High School Thanksgiving Food Drive (annual donation)

2008

  • Teen pregnancy has dropped to zero – none of the teens who participate in programs have had an unplanned pregnancy
  • Organized Casa Esperanza’s Ballet Folklorico

2009

  • Two students were accepted to a college or university

2010

  • Mono Lake Youth Leadership Environmental Camping Trip, 1st year
  • Our teens are participating and helping the community
    become eco-friendly
  • Three students were accepted to a college or university

2011

  • Our Girl Scout Troop has expanded to 27 members
  • Nine students were accepted to a college or university

2012

  • Developed new programs: Adult Literacy Program, Los Angeles Fire Academy Program, College Mentoring Program
  • Bought new, 12 passenger van
  • Casa Esperanza’s staff participates in Capacitar Training
    at La Casa de Maria.
  • Casa Esperanza’s 20th Anniversary
